Privacy policy

Short version: we don't ask for your name, address, or any identifying information to use this calculator.

What you enter

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. The assessed values, tax code, and exemption choices you enter are used only to compute your estimate on your device — they are not sent to or stored on our servers. If you use the optional PIN lookup, your browser queries Cook County's public open-data service directly to fetch your parcel's published assessed values — that request goes to the county's servers, not ours, and we never see or store it. We have no account system and do not require your name, address, parcel number, email, or any other identifying information to use the tool.

Email reminders (optional)

If we offer a deadline-reminder signup and you choose to subscribe, we collect the email address you provide (and, if you sign up from a township page, which township) solely to send you property-tax reminders — for example, before your township's appeal window opens or when bills are issued. The list is managed by our email service provider, is never sold or shared for others' marketing, and every email includes an unsubscribe link that takes effect immediately. Using the calculator never requires an email address.

Analytics

We use product analytics (PostHog) to understand how the calculator is used in aggregate — for example, how many visitors complete a calculation, or where in the flow people drop off — so we can improve the page. This is configured cookieless (no persistent identifier is stored across visits, so no cookie-consent banner is required) and does not capture the specific values you type into the calculator. Session-replay tooling may record anonymized page interactions (mouse movement, clicks, scroll) to help us find points of confusion in the page design; we do not use it to identify individual visitors.

Advertising

This site may display ads (e.g. via Google AdSense) once it has steady traffic. Ad networks may use cookies or similar technology to serve relevant ads; that is governed by the ad network's own privacy policy, not ours.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site (for example, to property tax appeal services) are affiliate links — see our affiliate disclosure for details. Clicking one may set a tracking cookie controlled by that third party so they can attribute the referral to us; we don't receive any personal information about you as part of that.

Hosting

This site is a static site hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Standard web server logs (IP address, request timestamp, user agent) may be retained briefly by AWS infrastructure for security and operational purposes.

Changes

This policy may be updated as the site evolves. The current version always applies to your use of the site.
